Project Evergreen: Making a Difference for Military Families in the Omaha Community

Apart from our love for the outdoors, our Sun Valley team cherishes the opportunity to share this passion with those who might not always have the chance to enjoy it.

Among these are the families of our deployed troops. Understanding their sacrifices, we’ve committed ourselves to ensuring these families can also experience the joy of a well-cared-for landscape, which is why we proudly partner with Project Evergreen!

The History of Project Evergreen

Supported by the National Association of Landscape Professionals, Project Evergreen has been a significant environmental and social advocate since 2003. Their initiatives, GreenCare for Troops and SnowCare for Troops extend beyond aesthetic improvements; they play a critical role in mitigating temperature increases and providing essential care for lawns and landscapes during a local family member’s deployment.

Project Evergreen’s vision is to create healthy, green spaces for communities, offering much-needed support to families coping with the absence of their loved ones. Their programs not only beautify neighborhoods but also bring relief to busy families looking for extra care around their property.

How Project Evergreen Makes a Difference

Volunteers, including lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal professionals, are matched with military families based on location and needs. For the duration of deployment, typically 6 to 12 months, these volunteers provide complimentary services, ensuring that the families have one less worry during a challenging time.

Once landscape contractors are registered as volunteers, they are notified by Project Evergreen once a family in your area needs your services. To respect privacy, the contact initiative is left to the military family, ensuring a comfortable and respectful arrangement.

Where Sun Valley Landscaping and Project Evergreen Meet

Celebrating our 13th year of collaboration with Project Evergreen, our Sun Valley Landscaping team is more committed than ever to supporting military families in our community. This partnership is not just a project for us; it’s a heartfelt expression of gratitude to those who dedicate their lives to serving our country.

Understanding the unique challenges faced by military families, especially the unpredictability of deployments, we seamlessly integrate them into our client base. Whether it’s ensuring their landscapes remain pristine or their driveways are clear of snow, we adapt our services to meet their needs, providing uninterrupted care and attention.

Ashly Neneman, our General Manager at Sun Valley, captures our philosophy behind the project perfectly: “Caring for these families is a natural part of our operation. We already have established schedules for our landscaping crews, and incorporating these households is a straightforward process for us, treating them with the same diligence and care as all our clients.”

Our commitment has often led us to extend our services to as many as eight households simultaneously, reflecting our deep connection to the military community, particularly those near the Bellevue base close to Omaha.

While we don’t seek accolades, the heartfelt thanks we receive—through calls, emails, or handwritten notes—serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of our work. One of the most touching moments for us was when our CEO, Paul Fraynd, met with a spouse from GreenCare for Troops! They gifted us a mission flag that had been flown over Afghanistan. These expressions of gratitude not only brighten our day but also fuel our dedication to making a difference, one family and one landscape at a time.
