Outdoor fire pit and fireplace ideas

Are you burning to add a fire feature to your outdoor space but don’t know which option is best for you? There might not be anything better three out of four seasons in Nebraska than hanging out with friends around a fire toasting marshmallows and glasses. Creating the perfect fire feature is much like the Three Little Bears; there is no one size fits all approach. That is why we take the time to meet with you and discuss how you want to use your outdoor space and the type of aesthetic you desire.

Whether you want a fireplace or a fire pit, they will both help you extend the time you can spend outside during the cooler midwest months of spring and fall. Let’s break the graham cracker on the pros and cons of the different fire features.

Fireplaces and fireplace inserts are better for smaller patios that may be prone to wind. Having a chimney feature will allow smoke to draft up and away from your seating area. They don’t take up as much patio space as a firepit and give the outdoor space a more structured focal point of an outdoor living area. Fireplaces, overall, do add more value to a property.

A wood-burning fire pit can come in a few different forms. You can have a ring around your firepit, or you can have it directly on the ground with a small boulder ring around it. This option, while more cost-effective, will require more maintenance with cleaning out debris.

Gas fire pits are more reliable when it comes to getting them lit, and you know you will always be able to sit by the fire without smelling like smoke at the end of the night. One downside is you lose some of the ambiance of the crackling log sound that comes with a wood-burning fire. When choosing between gas and wood, consider your lifestyle and how you want to use the space.

Portable is suitable for the person that is always moving furniture around. You are not committed to having your outdoor space in a particular layout. You can move it around as you please. These usually have a portable propane tank that you will need to remember to keep filled or have an extra on hand, so you don’t run out when entertaining!
